The Zap Box Welcomes Australian Customers

We are delighted to confirm today that all The Zap Box products are legal, safe and practical for use in Australia and therefore we wish to welcome Australian residents and businesses into our customer base.

It's taken some time to learn exactly what is required or prohibited within Australia and we've wasted many hours discussing legal information with companies who, unfortunately, did not have the expertise or experience to help us.

No Need for Australian-Specific Safety Certification

We spoke by telephone with Mr. Michael Dunbar - the Senior Investigator for Energy Safety at [The Office of] Fair Trading, New South Wales on February 1st 2011 to determine whether The Zap Box required special safety approvals before being sold within Australia.

On February 3rd we received email confirmation that "The 'Zap Box' would fall into the 'Non-Declared' category of product and as such approval is not mandatory."

Built To Accomodate Australian 250v / 50hz Circuits and other Australian Configurations.

Whilst The Zap Box is CE and UL safety approved, neither of these certifications are fully recognized within Australia however all Zap Boxes are built for voltages of at least 250v and 50hz which is safe and practical for the Australian 240v 50hz system.

For higher voltages and for 3-phase circuits we also have custom-built devices available which also meet the necessary electrical needs in Australia.

The Zap Box Has No Impact on Existing Home and Business Insurance Policies

We wanted to be very cautious about this and to be very certain that installing The Zap Box would not negatively affect a person's insurance policies.

We have also spoken with representatives of the following Australian Insurance companies;  1 Cover, AAMI, Allianz, AON, CommInsure, GIO, IAG, NAB Insurance, QBE and Suncorp to confirm that installing The Zap Box will not conflict with typical home, business or liability insurance policies.  It does not matter whether The Zap Box is professionally installed or self-installed.

Installation By A Qualified Electrician

The final aspect we checked was whether a qualified electrician would be happy to conduct an installation of The Zap Box - and to take legal responsibility for it afterwards.  We telephoned six random electricians and explained how The Zap Box operated.  Of these, all but one electricians were happy to conduct and take responsibility for installing The Zap Box. 

The Zap Box is unique in that it covered by a 2 million USD worldwide product liability insurance.

This insurance covers resellers, marketers and customers of The Zap Box in the very rare instance that something were to go wrong.

We have never needed to claim on this insurance policy but, for anybody who installs The Zap Box themselves or meets with an electrician who is reluctant to take responsibility for their installation then it is one additional reassurance.
